In 2013, The Town of Guilderland Board retained Solomon Energy to investigate the savings that might be realized from solar energy. Solomon conducted an RFP process in which it solicited bids from dozens of qualified contractors. After receiving 11 qualified bids, Solomon requested clarification from several of the bidders and then presented an apples-to-apples comparison of the bids to the Town Board and a number of departments. Solomon recommended that the Town take advantage of legislation in New York which allowed for remote or virtual net metering; under this structure the Town will gain the benefits of solar without inconvenient rooftop solar panel installations.

rnAfter the Town Board selected its preferred vendor, Solomon worked side-by-side with the Town to negotiate a Power Purchase Agreement with the winning solar developer. The agreement was approved and signed in September 2015. Construction of a solar farm is expected to begin in Spring 2016 with commissioning anticipated in Summer 2016.
